Banks Peninsula is one of Canterbury's most distinctive geographic features — an ancient volcanic massif rising from the Canterbury Plains south of Christchurch, with Lyttelton Harbour and Akaroa Harbour carved into its flanks. Its dramatic landscape and scenic roads make it a major tourist destination. Its winding hill roads, remote bays, and limited cell coverage make it one of Canterbury's most challenging towing environments.

Lyttelton

Lyttelton is Canterbury's historic port town, connected to Christchurch by the SH74 road tunnel. Our average response to Lyttelton is 22–30 minutes. Most Lyttelton tows are via the tunnel (faster) or over Evans Pass via Sumner Road (longer but available when the tunnel is closed).

Sumner and the Port Hills

Sumner is Christchurch's beloved beachside suburb at the base of the Port Hills, accessible via Marine Parade coastal road. Our response to Sumner is 25–35 minutes. The Port Hills Summit Road and access tracks are popular with tourists — hill road breakdowns require careful loading on gradient.

Akaroa — 84km from Christchurch

Akaroa is the most remote of Banks Peninsula's major destinations — 84km from Christchurch via the Summit Road or Okains Bay Road. Our response time to Akaroa is approximately 75 minutes. Akaroa is a major tourist destination drawing thousands of visitors annually, including cruise ship day visitors and campervan tourists. Breakdowns on the approach roads — particularly the narrow Summit Road — require careful management. We carry appropriate equipment for remote Banks Peninsula recovery.

Governor’s Bay and Lyttelton Harbour

The Lyttelton Harbour communities of Governor's Bay, Diamond Harbour, and Teddington are accessed via narrow, winding harbour roads. Our response is 30–40 minutes. Advise us if you are on a narrow hill road — we confirm appropriate equipment before dispatch.
